I badly wanted to hate rock climbers, especially with how all of them are LGBTQ+ and post their gender pronouns on their IG pages (all of them), but I've met and climbed with a lot of those fucking fairies. They aren't bad people.

It really depends on the type of mountaineering.

But I would say true mountaineering is more about adventure and involves significant risk. While rock climbing is more of a sport, and unless you are free soloing doesn't have much risk.

Again it depends on the type of mountaineering, because you do have the huge ego "mountaineers" who think that a mountaineering accomplishment is walking up the same dog route as thousands of other people but doing it faster.

I agree with this and am often confused by people who think dying while attempting to accomplish a feat in mountaineering is some tragic concept.

People will give an argument like "oh but they had a wife and kids that will miss them". Well if you have a family you shouldn't live the selfish life of a mountaineer in the first place.

This. I literally just started gearing up. Also have pro deals and shop everything.

I’m like $700 in, not including what I already had, which is pretty extensive but also summer oriented for the western Sierra. And I’m still not sure I have everything.

Got new layers, HS, ML, base layer, ice axe, gloves, snowshoes, avy shovel, helmet. Had mountaineering boots that I wore backpacking, 4 season tent, stove, filter, bladder etc etc already.

Shit is not a cheap hobby, but should be good to go once I’ve got it all. And I’m just a fat guy who backpacks somewhat regularly.
