Why does the copper beech have fluff around the edge of the leaves?
All the explanations I can find for why some leaves are fluffy only apply to leaves that are fluffy all over, not just along the edge. I can't fathom what biological purpose this would serve.
By the way, this fluff has a really cool-looking effect, where the edges of the leaves are brightly illuminated when you look at them from underneath.
