Why are rainjackets the same price as down jackets?

Can someone explain? The ones for mountaineering by the better brands, they are waterproof etc but why are they the same price as even the down jackets by the same brands?

The waterproof shells range from about $400-1000 ……

the thing is some of them are goretex, not sure if thats why.

maybe the sewing and sealing all the zippers properly etc is just as labour intensive as sewing a parka?

I got mine for free. The sent me two but only listed one on the package slip. So I returned just one. You just have to order often enough and you'll get lucky eventually.
