Got up into my first tree stand today. The ladder felt sketchy but I made it. I didnt have a harness so I know I'm stupid. I used 1000lb non climbing rope to tie a bowline around my chest/under armpits and looped that around the stand, then anchored to the bottom. If I fell I would have at least been caught on the stand, assuming I fell to the left side.
I've got a full body harness that comes with a tree strap coming, as well as 100 feet of 10.5mm UIAA rated static rope and 4 UIAA/CE rated carabiners. I figure in addition to the harness and tree strap, I'm going to make a swiss seat with a carabiner coming off the front, and then clip that into a rope tied around up near the tree belt for the full harness. I figure two harnesses should be safe and make me comfortable up there
