'antimicrobial' doesn't stop sweat from accumulating, which weakens the fibers. wash your shit, you'll get blow outs & holes after a few years if you don't.

fleeces and wool sweaters are for hiking in on a cold day. they let the wind through and breathe well when you're active. i would say a fleece and a wool sweater are interchangeable with each other. a soft shell is also interchangeable with one of these, when you want it to stop wind.
down jackets and puffies are for when you are stopped and camping when its cold. they are much warmer for the same amount of jacket. they block wind. they keep your layers underneath drier.
