Am I stupid or not?

Whenever I travel mostly France, Germany or the Netherlands I don't get any hotels (unless it's raining) but I just sleep amongst the homeless around or in the main train station.

For this I wear an older jacket and pants so I blend in and when one bothers me I just give them a sigarete.

According to my friends this is super stupid, dumb and dangerous but I don't see the problem.

Also tips for being voluntarily homeless?

sure has hell wouldn't do that in the states, but don't see why europe would be much of a problem.

friend of mine traveled to the UK, Germany, and France doing exactly the same thing. Didn't have any issues apart from freezing his ass off in the middle of winter.

only tip i'm aware of is to lurk around bakeries near closing time. they often put out bread, pasteries etc that haven't sold during the day for the homeless.

Correction, it's fun until something goes wrong. You're at the mercy of others. Where I used to live, it wasn't uncommon for 4 or 5 violent tweakers to travel as a group and pick people off. Usually they'd grope some sailor's girlfriend and bait him down an alley where the rest were waiting.

What advantages is there to lurking near potentially dangerous hobos and sleeping in busy urban areas vs stealth camping alone on the outskirts of town?
I'd much rather and have slept in the woods behind a rural church, in a patch of trees between farm fields, or set up illegally in some national park etc

I stayed at an hostel in Berlin and they do try to put women together at least a little bit in the rooms and my name is very feminit in German so they put me in a room with 6 french girls. I stayed there only for one day but when I woke up in the middle of the night there was just french ass all around me.

Way too much of a pussy yo talk to any of them. Been all around Europe but I've never talked to someone outside of homeless people

Good tip for free breakfast is going to a hotel and just walking into the breakfast buffet1

america has no public transport and i'm short. i can sleep diagonally in the back of my 4x4 with my camping gear. i gutted the interior and insulated it a while ago for winter camping. its cramped and tiny and i have to cook outside but it gets the job done. i only get hotels on my cross country road trips if i want to for the entertainment value ala dan bell's "another dirty room."

Been doing it for the past 4 years and mostly in the summer. Never for more then a week though so I don't eat very often if anything.
As for sleeping I can very easily sleep sitting or sometimes laying in the grass in a park.

But yeah the homeless in Europe are definitely different. Some are kinda weird and will just start screaming at night for no reason but that doesn't wake me up that often
