Would I look like a retard if I buy good gear to ski in as a beginner? I've skied before but I'm still new to it, I like it a lot.
I prefer to buy quality stuff over cheaper things just so I don't have to buy anything new in the future

aside from the skis and boots, "ski gear" is just winter gear. Don't go cheap on boots but dont pay too much, try to get last seasons stuff. I've been skiing most of my life and I just throw together random warm clothes every time i go

nope because skiing is mostly a rich persons hobby. it is very normal for beginners to have expensive premium gear
