The fact that Maine is a 5 and Idaho is an 8 is a dead giveaway that the image is a work of fiction. Subtracting 1-2 from most of the Western states and adding 1-2 to most of the Eastern states (and 3-4 to Maine) would be more correct.

Unless you're a boomer type and you want to tend a lawn or larp as a homesteader, yes, it's absolutely worth the sacrifice in square footage or acreage for millions of acres of grade-A world-class primo Waygu public land. Northern Cal is /out/ mecca.

you know there's the coastal plain, then the piedmont, then the ridge and valley (true mountains), then a whole big plateau stretching from NY state down to Alabama that is quite thinly populated apart from Pittsburgh. Some of the East Coast is densely settled, but further inland, in between the arable valleys of the midwest is a lot of sparsely settled steep terrain.

My guess is that since most of the land is private and most of the public land is so spread out it makes the score really low. Plus the weather is dog shit 90% of the year - starting around June the temps start touching the mid 90's and doesn't relent until end of October....then the cold rain come. I’ve lived in SoCal and currently live in the upstate of SC at the foot of the mountains. They’re both nice in their own ways, but I like having cheaper gasoline, hassle-free firearms, and home ownership. The west coast is still wonderful for visiting but I don’t feel like being octuple-vaxxed

my friend's 230k property in NC is nicer than my 850k property in western WA. by every metric. he's right on the ocean with a stand alone workshop and the house itself is nicer. bought in a worse market than i did too.

those kinds of prices are done for... I'm from NC, and every year propery goes up by like $50k. Only real cheap options for land are mid-state nowhereville, and even faggot flippers and developers are buying up cheap land there to install McMansion suburbs that fetch $350k per house. NC is probably the WORST southeastern state by far because of how much developing happens here, and it attracts transplants. The towns just outside of Raleigh are unrecognizeable from what they were a mere decade ago. Locals can't afford to buy homes in the towns they grew up in.

For anyone wondering Fuck Off all of the Appalachians especially the northern parts from the Alleghenies through the, Adirondacks, Greens, Whites, and Longfellow's are full. I've heard the Catskills, Southern Taconics and Berkshires still have plenty of room and are really welcoming though. You should move there. I hear beach property in Maryland or one of the Carolina's is beautiful too. Way better than those ugly hollers of Kentucky and West Virginia. Or Sketchy back roads of Georgia and Tennessee. Honestly the whole east coast is just overcrowded and disgusting you're better off just staying in California, that massive bonfire y'all throw every year just tops everything.
