Sure it will work well, hatches/axes/mauls are all kind of specific to the use case so pick what works best. For just general camping I've found something close to 700g head with a 45cm handle to be good. If you are doing more actual tree felling you would go on the slightly larger size of that and if you are just using it to split kindling and other camp duties slightly smaller.

Personally I have a Hults Bruk Aneby which I really enjoy but it is on the larger size and sizing down to an Almike would probably make more sense if I just wanted an in camp hatchet.

Op this man speaks the truth. The smallest chopping tool you should get is a boy's axe. My favorite axe out of all the smaller axes I own is the council tool boys axe and I own a gfb small forest (which I would only recommend if you need something more packable). What are you using it for?

I've had a fiskars hatchet for the last 5 years or so. It's done everything I wanted and some more on top. My wife got it in her head to use a rock as a chopping block at one point, and chopped several branches before I saw what she was doing.

The metal was a little dinged up on one side. It took me a few hours to re-sharpen the thing and fix the edge. All things considered, good hatchet, has withstood use by a woman... so it has some pretty high quality steel in there.

The council tool is going to be one of the cheapest and best ones to get. That is a poorfag axe. It's $60. You aren't gonna find anything comparable without hafting a head you find yourself. Even then a good handle is gonna cost you ~$20-30

I like to bring a "crazy crow trading post tomahawk" I got for like $30. it's cheap, light weight and surprisingly sturdy. the head can be detached to make it easier to pack or used as a separate tool. it's a great tool and one you dont feel bad about using and abusing.

Swiss surplus is good but heavy. The handle needs carved down, it's a repurposed sledge hammer handle I think. But cuts good. For the weight a lighter and longer ax would be better tho.

I went out with a small forest axe, my friend had a mini hatchet like this. The min hatchet was totally fucking useless compared to my ass, ended up just being pack weight for my friend.

An actual tool it better than a half ass one.

I have an Adler Rhineland Hatchet. Had to buy it in a pinch to deal with a tree that came down and I went with it because it was what I could get locally on a Sunday, and I'm not sure it's what I'd go with if I'd had more time to order something and wait, but in general I like it and it does its job well.

Got me from harbor freight on a road trip in Louisiana one time. That was 5 years ago and it’s still going strong. Just sanded the coat off handle and used a double cut file on the edge to make it serviceable.
They’re just sharp bits of steel. Literally the only thing on a cheap hatchet ($10-$30) that could potentially be garbage is the handle, which is easy to replace. If you can’t make that work you’re fucking retarded.
