>>2503145>>2503143This was my experience as well. The campouts were once a month, mostly car camping but a few hike ins. They only went backpacking a few times a year. And there were one or two bigger trips a year.
My last year with that troop year we got like half a dozen new black kids that joined us, all of them with really bad behavioral issues. This was New Orleans in the 1990’s, so it’s not like we weren’t familiar with black kids (the city is mostly blacks). These kids were exceptionally bad. I found out years later one of the adults was a Lutheran minister and had arranged some kind of urban outreach program. Anyway, for some reason they let them all form into a single patrol and call themselves “the black panthers.”
We moved out of the city and the local troop was just lame. One camping trip to a nearby state park every year, very few people, very little organization. I stuck with it for a few years but I really missed my old troop, even the bad ass black kids.
