I bought myself a kukri a year or so ago, used it extensively as a camp duty tool. It really seems like a neat idea in theory but in practice it just doesn't work for me no matter how hard I try. It's too cumbersome to be a good replacement for a knife, it's too light to be a good replacement for a hatchet. It's also a pain in the ass to take care of due to the fact that it has a recurve shape. The only scenario where it's actually reasonable to use it is clearing slightly thick branches or really thick weeds where a regular machete doesn't have enough weight to cut through. I can't count how many times I found myself wishing I packed proper tools instead. Why are people so obsessed about these things? Have I fallen for a meme?
