Outdoor research has their Seattle Sombrero waterproof hat on sale. I'm wondering if these are actually useful if you already own a goretex jacket with a hood.

I'm assuming the hat will have that umbrella effect, keeping rain further away from your face, but then you can't really wear it with a hood, so your neck would be exposed. I'm just curious. It doesn't seem like a perfect solution.
