BUT make sure you get the proper permits and licensing, otherwise you're basically just stealing money from farmers.

Anon, you can plant it in some dirt and it will probably grow, the thing about trying to grow an onion from a store is that onions are biennials and are usually harvested at the end of the first growing season. “What’s it matter to me? I’m a big ol retard” well it matters because that particular onion is probably gonna try to put on seeds ASAP after it gets in some warm soil. Then you have 2 options, let the plant flower and collect the seeds for starting your own onions again or you can pull it up and plant something useful. If you want onions go buy some onion bulbs from the farm supply store and plant those like someone who knows how to grow things.

Perhaps you missed the part where I told him how to collect the seeds off this one, retard. Also growing from seed is more difficult, thinning seedlings, correct planting depth, etc. I reckon if you think putting that onion in the ground gives you more onions then your gardening knowledge is CHAZ tier, pic related, and a bit of hand holding is needed

Pro tip: you don't need to plant the whole onion, just the bud with it's roots. you will not get onions, but you can use the leaves. Also don't cut the stem.

I usually put them in a glass of water (dont submerge it completely, leave like 1/2 of the bulb above the surface) or an empty yoghurt plastic cup/ice cream box filled with any earth and sprinkled with water every day. Then put it in the window. My record this summer was half a meter tall chives, quite tasty.
