yak is a good budget option because they mass produce the textile in china but its not that similar to musk ox down.
i may be wrong about these, just my impressions owning and using these textiles long term, maybe a /sci/fag can correct me on anything i'm off on:
musk ox is the warmest and softest of them but not the most durable.
bison's the second warmest, most durable, and has the best anti-moisture properties of the bunch.
yak's the third warmest and most mass produced alternative.
merino's mass produced and the fibers are strong enough to make durable thin garments out of.
