You can make one from a forked stick some leather and bicycle inner tubes, like pic related. I could make one in less than 30 minutes. Used to make them all the time with my grandpa in the Appalachian plateaus. Of course anything store bought will feel better, in fact I have a store bought Daisy here beside me now. They’re handy to have for passing time and even taking some small game if you get gud.

Sit still and watch nature come to life around you. There's a wetlands area up the road from my office. Over the course of the last year I've seen: turtles, frogs, great blue herons, crowned black night herons, bald eagles, golden eagles, turkey vultures, kingfishers, orioles, white faced ibis, greater sandhill cranes, and some kind of muskrat-like thing that is smaller than a beaver but bigger than a muskrat.

Listen to any recommendations in this thread. You make it fun by setting a goal for yourself or deciding on an activity to do. My favorite thing is do is just “exploring”. I look at google maps and alltrails to find interesting looking spots or areas out in my local national forest, and then hike out there and take pictures and see what it looks like on the ground.
