Rain covers

Hey /out/
I have a Osprey Aether 70L and was debating between getting the osprey rain cover or the Sea To Summit Deluxe cover.
Anyone have any opinions on this? The STS seems to be a bit more stout as well as a bit cheaper. Any help appreciated.

In all honest, without owning and testing them I doubt anyone could give you a real answer. From purely specification based viewing, the STS cover may be a little more durable if you're putting it down on rocks etc. due to the 210D base. Plus there's loops for attaching shit if you don't want to go delving in the pack and have to remove the raincover.

I'd probably go for the STS one to be honest, good brand, good price and it's specifications are better than the Osprey one.

it's a fucking overpriced overnight pack, that isn't waterproof. did you check the weather report and it called for a chance of rain? if you answered yes, then I'm guessing that you need fucking rain protection. it's just a god-damned overnight pack so, hefty bags would be fine but, since you are obviously a giant cock-sucking grearfag, BUY THE FUCKING RAIN COVER.

The Aether is 70L. Big enough for an extended trip of at least a few days.

Not many rucksacks are waterproof. Water resistant, yes, but not waterproof, hence the need for a cover.

Weather FORECAST. It can change easily and with little warning.

It is a 4 day hike in a California state park above 2500ft. The weather can change rapidly and they said there is a small chance of rain. (trip starts on the 10th) This is the rainy season for us as well.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing as the STS looks like it would hold up better if a tool is secured on the back of my pack.
Call me a gear fag if you want but i rather not sleep in a wet down bag in temperatures in the 30s

Wet equipment sucks. Most of all I hate wet socks, I will bring 3 pairs with me. I can use a dry bag but still better to keep everything dry. Also a wet sleeping bag in winter is never a good thing. Thanks for the advice, I'm going with the STS cover.

I wish I'd gotten the sea to summit large cover, but the medium works. If I don't have anything strapped to the outside.

I'll probably just give it to my girlfriend and then buy the large one, but the cover itself is pretty decent.

OP it doesn't matter, it isn't going to rain you live in california.

Just buy the cheapest possible pack cover because the truth of the matter is that they're just about useless. your gear won't stay dry with just that.

you need to bag up and tie off the important stuff in your backpack with trash compactor bags and then cover the entire pack with a pack cover to achieve any real level of water resistance.

I hate pack covers, never use them. I have before and if you're in enough rain that it matters I had problems with rain getting down and sitting in the bottom of the cover. soaking the bottom of my bag. I just throw a dry sack (or if you're poor a grabage bag) in my pack and load it up.
