>>2505030>It's also glued on, not sewed on. The old school (indestructible) leather boots are double stitched. The cheap boots are ingle stitched and glued.here's a basic boot lesson to you why the upper of your boot being indestructable doesn't mean much.
key word: the upper of your boot. that's the only part that's actually kept over time. you throw out and replace the outsole constantly throughout its life.
its largely irrelevant because hiking boots are made out of EVA foam and PU midsoles which only last 500, maybe 900 miles of hiking. they're great to hike in. their advent immediately led to accomplishments previously unimaginable in mountaineering. they're just better in every single way.
old school leather boots used leather midsoles. they last forever. the outsole needs to be replaced. they're not very comfortable for long distance hiking. fine for some casual day hikes or a camping trip not too far off the parking lot.
because modern boots lifespan is determined by the midsole, which these days are made out of foams and rubbers which compress over time, nobody cares how long the upper of their boot lasts. once that midsole foam/rubber is shot from compressing getting stepped on, its shot. 99.5% of hikers are willing to pay the increased cost of having to replace boots every year in exchange for boots that absolutely DESTROY the old hobnail and felt mountaineering shoes of yesteryear. if you want to make a case for that bullshit please at least read about why vibram soles were invented first. those old shitty hobnail boots killed so many people.
