Hello Out
I want to go on a long and extended walk/hike/trek in Scotland where wild camping is legal so I can relax for an extended period of time without slipping into decadence like people do at holiday resorts and have nothing to do but walk and read. I plan to do this summer 2023 after my A levels and before university. By then I will have at least £1000 in savings and probably more (I now have about £900). Will this be feasible.
£1.70 for a weeks worth of rice
£0.60 for a weeks worth of carrots
£5 for two lamb chops
£3 for a roll of proper bread (normal supermarket bread in the uk is actually a bread substitute but if you’re willing to pay extra you can get actual bread quite easily).
I should note that I’m an autist so I won’t mind eating mostly rice with other food in smaller amounts to get necessary nutrients and would probably prefer it over variation as I like routine.
I imagine I could roast vegetables easily in a mess tin (German/polish/Russian variety) and make a decent if oddly shaped Yorkshire pudding in the removable dish that comes with the mess kit.
Shelter: bothies. Carry a zeltbhan in case I can’t find a bothy.
Entertainment: the natural world+books. I will buy books to read on the trip and then pass them on or something when I’m done with them.
Clothes:
I’ll bring 2 pairs of trousers and 3/4 cotton or linen shirts. I’ll also bring a jumper or two. Will be packed in a rucksack.
I also want to do this to prove to my friends that cost of living is low outside of rent and vices
but that is an afterthought that came to me whilst typing this post. My main motivation is a sense of wanderlust and desire for solitude to think and to read.
Misc:
Needles+thread
Lighter
Swiss army knife
Water bottle
Might bring an axe
Torch
Anything I’ve missed? Is this feasible?
