Walking along well worn hiking trail about knifepoint, headed N.
Landscape is endless knobs n pots, forested heavily, maybe 50ft vis places, 250ft at best others. Not Appalachian thick, so some vis.
I want to turn east at the access road and then south where it hits the other access road before the pond/lake.
Figuring out scale and distance is a weak point of mine in these conditions. The map is about 1.5km in width in photo.
Walking along that trail I come upon a saddle, down ENE of it is a marshy pond feature. I walk down out of pure autistic need to check it out. Neat. I walk back up, definitely the same trail. I take a compass reading, the trail continues at a 325 bearing give or take.
Continue on trail a few minutes as it curves around to a NE bearing, and come across a two-rut access road. Walk down it eastish and it goes along the north side of that same marshy pond thing I was just at, with clearcuts along its north edge.
Follow along it for a bit and... It just dies out after the marsh.
I look south past the marsh and see a hill. I walk up it and look east for that large pondlake. Eventually strike E/SE bushwhack and reach a pond. Figure its the "head" and track a SSE course to see if I can find the "body".
After a couple hundred feet I am just in the middle of dense woods getting mobbed by mosquitoes and clearly not where I thought I was.
Where am I, anon?
