DFW Texas here

Can anyone recommend some interesting places to visit this winter? Preferably within a maximum of 6 hours of drive time. Can be out of state. Done all of the local.

First idea was Arkansas hot springs but just fishing for ideas.

The hiking trails near Natchitoches, LA are worth the drive if you’re going to spend a few days. It’s probably around 4 hours from you. The ~40 miles Big Kisatchie Loop is quite lovely and easy to follow (though it is Louisiana, so don’t expect scenic overlooks). Part of it is an multi-use trail, open to horses, hikers, bikers, and ATV’s, but is closed to motorized traffic January though April.

Hot Springs isn’t particularly an /out/ destination other than going to the lake in the summer. It’s just a national park because of the historic downtown. Are you mainly trying to hike and camp? There are a ton of great places in the Ozarks, and if you like to climb I can recommend some great places for that too

This. I live in New York and am considering flying into DFW just to explore the Wichita Mountains and then Palo Duro.

1. Dublin bottling plant (original Dr. Pepper site, also check out the cheese/farm that is out there Veldhuizen Cheese Shop.
2. Doss Heritage center in Weatherford TX. You would not believe how much medicine contains cow parts.

4. Billy Bob's indoor rodeo in Fort Worth
5. Any Buc-ee's, anywhere, anytime
6. San Antonio riverwalk
7. Poly stop 6 if you want to take chances.

Do any of these places allow bringing guns / plinking? I live in DFW and only camp in the Davy Crockett National Forest for this reason.
