Cheers, anons.
I'm a poorfag, so the only skis I found this winter were ones at the local thrift store, for $20.
Unfortunately, they didn't come with bindings nor boots, and the only ones I found with bindings were old-school 3-pin ones - which would be great, except I could not find any boots in my size over a 2 week period, and delivery would've taken a month and a half, from China.
As such, I've decided to construct my own cross-country ski bindings, with the advantage of being able to use any boots I want.
Since I won't be competing or doing alpine-touring runs downhill at 40mph, I figured I didn't need bindings that are 100% reliable.
Here are my experiments so far.
We had beautiful ski weather a few days ago, which made me pretty desperate to get outside and ride a bit.
I went and attached some steel L-brackets I had, and then used paracord to strap my feet in.
Needless to say, it didn't work out very well - although I got the heel of my boot to go up and down freely, there was far too much side-to-side play - almost sprained my ankle.
Was defeated for the rest of the day, which was mostly spent thinking about how to solve the problem of side-to-side movement.
