I know yoyo reels are illegal in many states (commiefornia, texas, north eastern states, also heard north dakota). So to make it more simple, I am asking which states are they LEGAL in?

Curious and might be a state I would look forward to as a future destination.

Why are you so hung up on this particular gadget?
I would expect to catch more fish on a standard trout line since fish often fall off when breaking the surface.

definitely Arkansas, and I believe the only other state they are allowed in is either Mississippi or Louisiana... and they're awesome. a group of 4 can put out 100 in a night and reasonably expect 20-50 fish on a fair night.

I'm pretty sure there cool in Indiana so long as limb line rules are followed. Its been a while since I've looked, as Ive never really thought of using one, but I'm almost positive no language in the laws restrict their use here

OP here I loved the videos from muddyrivercatfishing. He's in new mexico and he has great videos on these, he would catch some big channel and flathead catfish. In some states these catfish are like pests. "Egg production varies, from 3,000 to 100,000 eggs, depending on the size of the female" They aren't going extinct folks. I bet you could make a decent living doing this. At least a side job or hobby. Still have to afford a small boat and all the bait for these. Freeze tons of fishmeat, trade with neighbors who garden for their fruits/veg. Seems pretty epic.
