Tried to sleep outside in the hammock.

I had a super free range semi wild goose for Christmas and I fucked it up bad the first day.

The recipe i followed didn't work, internal temperatures even seemed to work differently for the bird. Came out sadly very dry and though.

Anyway for the second day i put the goose in the oven covered for atleast 4 hours more at around 250 and it came out great. Everything fell apart and since I put her in a huge dutch oven lots of the meet just confit in its own fat.

The night before last a friend and I hiked a whole half a mile up to a barren wind blown ridge to camp for the night. The ground was so frozen and rocky that I didn't even try setting up my tent. My friend destroyed a bunch of tent stakes but eventually got his tent up. Steady 15 to 20 mph wind all night. I slept comfy under the stars in my down bag. The low temp was about 20F. Getting out of the bag in the morning sucked. Winter camping sucks but you have to do it occasionally.

I figure I'll ask in this thread since it's people actually going /out/.

I'm looking at two different sets of winter mitts. Not meant for transition type weather where there is a risk of rain, but -5c and below (typically -15c to -30c).
Here are the two mitts:

Just going to use mitten strings/straps with my coat, want these while wearing a glove liner or something similar. Will mostly be used for hiking and ice fishing.

Dumb question for the snowfags in the rockies.
Where the fuck do I park to go on an overnight? 90% of trailheads are closed/snowed in, the ones that are plowed are always full on fru/saturday and you can't park on the side of the road anywhere because there are plow piles deeper than my car.

Found a doe carcass on my property today. Coyotes and bald eagles been pickin at it. Such is the circle of life. I hope one day when its my time, my carcass can feed the animal frens and not be embalmed in chemicals and buried in some gay indiscripit plot.

went /out/ yesterday to walk in the snowfall, had to drive for about 2 hours to get to my favourite spot, where I usually spend my summer camping and then wandered inna woods to see said woods covered in snow for the first time

it was about -5ºC/23ºF and it started snowing half way through the day, I thought it was gonna feel colder, since where I live it never snows and 0ºC is about as cold as it gets during the winter, and it never snows

i started rock climbing about a year ago, both sport and alpine. if you live in an area with great rock i would suggest you just give it a try, it's great fun and i've met a lot of amazing people.

i got hooked when a friend took me on an easy alpine climb. he gave me a quick rundown how to belay and climb lead so i knew the gear a bit. he then soon became a father so i started going to the gym for myself, got to knew some people, started climbing sport outside with them and the floodgates were open. if you don't already have friends into climbing the gym isn't a bad place to start. i often meet boulderers who want to get into climbing but lack a belay and/or training. i meet a lot of couples or even sized groups at the crag so it might not be as easy to find a belay there but i never tried to be honest.
