I've had the smartwool lumberjack wool lined leather gloves for a few years now. Heavy use chain sawing, snow shoveling, and playing with the kids in the snow. I recommend them

if you have money to spend buy bison down gloves and a bison down beanie. nothing made out of synthetics or merino wool can compare in terms of quality and performance. doesn't matter what brand its from.
bison down is expensive and hard to get if you don't live in north america. expect near $200 for a hat and gloves. any of the brands selling bison down gear that come up on google search are good, i've bought stuff from all of them over the years and its all sameish.

musk-ox, yak, and alpaca
and if you need very rugged gloves for something like cutting a tree down, always go with synthetics even if they will be outperformed in warmth.

OR's gloves are solid but if you're buying synthetic liner gloves my recommendation is try on every brand at your local outfitter. fit is the most important thing with gloves and every brand's a wee bit different in terms of finger length to palm size ratio.

I'm a fan of boiled wool gloves. Only issue with them is in strong winds the air passes through too much so you might want a shell mitt for them.

Do not buy winter gloves, period. Isolating your fingers is directly working against keeping them warm. It's a fundamentally flawed concept.

Instead use a multilayer approach uses by winter military units:

Fingerless gloves, wool. For when fine dexterity is absolutely necessary. Finger proximity promotes warm. Baselayer.

Mittens, wool. A thin/medium thickness pair as your midlayer.

Mittens, synthetic/treated cotton. Large heavy pair for outmost layer. Should provide adequate windproofing as well.

this is good general cold weather advice.
poor man's shell glove layer is just using some thick disposable gloves a size or two too big. they'll keep your hands just as dry as fancy $100 shell mittens. just way more fragile, only to be used while traveling.
