Sick from the cold? Need advice

Yesterday I walked about 6 miles in -10C but it “feels like” -28C

I was dressed pretty well, but I was walking along a high way the whole time so there were tons of gasses.

Not sure what it was but when I got home and now the next day I have a really irritated throat and keep coughing.

I don’t know how it could be a virus because I haven’t been near anyone.

Is it possible to get sick from the cold? Jewgle says it’s not but I don’t believe it. Why the fuck am I coughing and in pain?

Yes it's possible to get sick from cold exposure, don't believe the MD lies.
The more you expose yourself to the cold the better your body will be at handling it. It's like training any other muscle or athletic ability. Don't overdo it but always give your body a signal/resistance so that it will adapt more over time.

I think i over did it. I thought it would be fine but, it’s only been mild here all winter (-10C including windchill). Hopefully i don’t die of pneumonia. Either that or it’s the vaccine. I heard it stays dormant in your body acts like herpes, and herpes out breaks and also auto immune disorders can be triggered by the cold. Weird that it’s attacking my lungs though.

I have had it a few times, I was dressed appropriately and wasn’t cold at all, but I simply just breathed in too much cold air for my lungs to handle and I got sick and weak pretty fast

Take it easy and take antibiotics just in case, probably nothing but play it safe and get well soon fren

It's definitely possible that the cold can irritate the lungs, the balaclava helps but ultimately it takes quite a bit of energy to walk in the snow and the respiratory demand is high so you have to breathe a lot. You can try to use your nose more when possible to help warm the air up/

Yeah that’s the thing, I was mainly using my mouth even though it was covered

you should maybe practice nose breathing more, especially when under strain. i think it's good for you. my issue with balaclavas is they tend to make it much harder and it's a double problem because mouth breathing with em invites so much moisture

there's a million things that can be potential sources of disease, from dirt, to air, to water, to animals.

No virus have ever been isolated, so anything said about "viruses" doing this or that are pure speculations and done in unscientific ways.
As you said yourself, you inhaled a lot of toxic exhaust from the traffic and now the body is trying to get rid of it.
Winter tires exacerbate the levels of particles as they tear up the asphalt. In my city there are even laws against driving with winter tires on certain streets to minimize particles.

Your body could have already been fighting off an infection and doing just fine.
Suddenly you put too much stress on your body by getting cold giving the infection a chance to win ground.
Cold alone isn't a virus or makes you infected, it probably just tipped the balance in favor of whatever viral battle was already going on.

Some stress is good so nothing wrong with getting abit exposure, you just need to help boost your body too.
Tend to it with some vit C and such stuff that'll help tip the balance back in your favor.
Altho sometimes it can't be helped, can't know for sure if you'd have gotten ill wether you got cold or not.
