The piezo igniter on my stove never worked for shit. I had to choke down cold uncooked Mountain Haus meals on my last trip. I'm thinking about buying pic related MSR piezo igniter; it works just like the one on my stove but you hold it like a lighter. Does anybody have any experience with it? I don't carry a lighter or matches.

I got one to have an alternate way to light my stove if my lighter became unusable. It works very well, you just hold it to the burner while the gas is on and strike it until the stove lights. It's small and pretty cheap so I would recommend it.

What stove do you have friend?

I had one for my whisperlite and they are also a pain in the ass, requiring sometimes 10 or 15 clicks to light the priming cup. If this sounds like a fun time to you then go ahead

Or just carry a fucking mini Bic which you should be doing anyway

Well the piezoelectric igniter on your chink stove took a shit on you, so I guess you did need to. Good thing you saved a whopping 3grams by not putting a mini bic in your pocket. This is why I don't feel bad when retards die outdoors, if anyone has it coming, its people with attitudes like this.

Yeah that sucks, might need to get a new stove that doesn't have an igniter. I recently started doing water enema's before I head out on a trip so I know that I am not carrying any unnecessary dead weight with me, a lot of people only think about the weight they are carrying on them and not the weight they are carrying in themselves.

You can light a stove with a ferro rod if you’re too autistic to just use a lighter.
Won’t break like a pizo or run out of fuel like a lighter, although I suppose it does wear out eventually

Okay okay okay okay I'll carry a goddamn lighter! Jeez if I knew I'd catch so much shit I wouldn't've made the thread.

Can any of you jokers recommend a decent razor blade? I bought a hundred pack of Red Devil blades to last for a lifetime of backpacking but they rust really fast in this wet weather. Last time /out/ I had to chew a piece of dyneema cord in half because the blade was rusted to hell. I don't carry a knife.

Why not carry a Victorinox Classic SD? It weighs 20 grams, takes the same room as a bic and it also provides you with a handle for the small knife. It also comes with scissors. More practical and safe than playing around with a bare razor blade.

I haven't seen any outists or bushcrafters manage to seal rope ends or light a cigarette with aanything but a lighter, versatility is king in the outs.
Lighter also lights gas stoves.

He planned to respond that he doesn't carry a lighter or matches due to weight concerns.

He is now collecting the guaranteed replies.

He may not have been able to ignite his hypothetical stove, but he sure ignited the "ulralighters are retarded" debate (which is a true statement, and not a debate at all).

Well, you're tarded. But you could always replace one of your carabiner's with pic related so you have a back up striker.
You'll still probably die of hypothermia some days. But at least the recovery team won't have to carry too much of your gear back to your family. Thanks for being ultralight
