>>2526069I bought a few ripstops to try them out, I've heard good things.
They are a little petite in terms of hardware but they do walk really nice. You can fish them close to structure - toss it into a bassy looking spot and then work the bait, it'll make big side to side movements but doesn't track forward very much. That's the main product feature: side to side action without much forward movement. I think they're pretty cool but I bought em just to play with haven't found a really unique use yet.
I'm interested in experimenting with throwing jerkbaits into situations where one would normally throw a crank. Saw a video about it where the guy fished a deep diving jerkbait in a situation where one would normally use a spinnerbait or crankbait because the bill caused deflections on sticks and wood. Seemed interesting to me but I mostly fish from the bank so gotta consider that lures need to be rising up in the water column as I retrieve them towards the bank.
Been fishing the ripstop along dock pilings too and that did produce a small bass this summer on the clown color we'll see how that goes.
Ripstop is a lot more like the action I would want on a spoon when I fish spoon just below the surface in the mornings of the summer - a lot more darting than an Xrap - we'll see what happens this summer.
I was hoping it would be a bait to use for fall pike but fall pike are too big. The BX swimmer turned out to be good at attracting monster pike in late august but as I said elsewhere: the stock split rings and hooks must be replaced!! I lost a PB pike this year but at least I got my lure back and a chance to try again. I put hooks and split rings from an XR12 onto the BXSwimmer12 but it's not ideal.
Strike king lures should replace hooks but not necessary.
