If I owned a property like this what can I realistically do to prevent forest fires wiping out all the bush. I don't live in a climate where they happen often, but I would still like to err on the side of caution.

like a fire break?
limb all the trees to about 6' off the ground
clear out any brush over 2'
remove dead-fall
you'd want to thin the trees as well (imagine a 15' radius or so around each tree)

my land is zoned forest, and part of the conditions for allowing a dwelling on it were pretty much what i posted above. for a 200' radius around the house

Realistically nothing. You can do what >>2524149 said, but wildfires can jump literal miles. Structures get priority, but wildfires are going to do what they're going to do.

If it makes you feel better, I've personally only ever seen one structure burn from a wildfire. When I say that structures get priority, I mean it. The state and feds will divert resources from areas that need active attention just to have them guard your house on the off chance the fire moves.

This. If the forest is a tinderbox because fire HAS been stopped for too long, you could thin it out and maybe sell some wood.

I have to say I’ve had the same thoughts when looking for land, but it’s a very selfish and human thing. Many plants rely on fire to regrow, like not just for nutrients but many reproductive strategies are completely centered around a fire happening, and without them it doesn’t happen.
The world burns friend, and all you can do is sit there and watch.

Keep in mind that natural forest fires are much less intense than the raging wildfires you see on the news. Such fires are so destructive because the normal fires are being prevented and flammable brush and downfall have accumulated to unnatural amounts. A healthy wildfire zips through a forest to consume any dry brush and dead trees and rarely is intense enough to damage the full grown trees.

California is reaping the consequences of preventing fires for decades when they should have been doing a controlled burn program to maintain the natural fire cycle.

Humans have been putting out fire for so long that we've damaged the fire ecosystem. Low-intensity undergrowth fires are supposed to kill most small trees. Now forests are too dense, and there's too much ladder fuel that allows fire to crown and kill the whole forest. We can remediate a century of bad fire management by thinning brush and small trees. But it's incredibly labor intensive. We need a new CCC.

Not much, but if you want to protect your home, have a swimming pool or huge cistern, and a gasoline powerered fire pump that can flow at least 100 GPM.
Also consider compessed air foam or whatever fire retardent the Forest Service uses to protect buildings.
Your insurance company also hires contractors to spray that stuff on your house. Talk to them about it.

Realistically anon, in a property of that size there is nothing that one person can practically do to stop a forest fire, you can try a firebreak, but on this sort of scale and terrain it will be very hard to make a useful firebreak without devoting 100% of your day to it for months
