1. They are born out of the paleo tend. but no one ever wore footwear like that at any time in history.
2. Don't just go from the modern shoes you've been wearing your whole life to these. The muscles in your lower leg, feet, the connective tissue, and the skin of your feet have all been affected by your modern shoes and it needs time to strengthen and adapt to different footwear.
3. Buy some toe socks and some middling foot shaped shoes like thicker sole Altras. This is a good way to start the process of adapting.
4. Once you get used to the above wear thinner soles...like Altra Lone Peaks. Then maybe the super thin ones like Vivobarefoot or Xero.
5. Then when you can wear those all the time without pain, get the toe shoes if you really want but you won't be gaining much of anything. Some slight improvement in foot strength, specifically your toes will learn to grip more.
