Another time I ripped my ACL, tibio fibular dislocation in the middle of nowhere in the arctic. Just lay there for 2 days. Then crawled to an emergency shelter 15ks distant where I rested for a week before being able to continue. But for some reason this was less scary.

Winter hiking in Tuckerman's Ravine. I was a teen and didn't have crampons. I was coming down Lion's Head. Couldn't break through the ice crust. Slipped, fell, slid down the slope for a few hundred feet. Hit one tree sticking above the snow. Rolled over that tree. Hit a second tree and hold on for dear life until the rest of the group could catch up. I was fucking lucky to escape with only a few light scrapes.

Another time as an adult we went up to the col of Tuckermans' in the late winter. I suggest we take our break in the lee of a large outcrop. Nothing fell on us. Years later I mentioned to the guy who'd proposed the trip that it had been ideal avalanche weather. He replied "yeah. That was kinda dumb of us."

Went out in a knee-deep snowfall with regular pants and boots, got completely soaked and stayed overnight. Had to walk 2+ miles back to the car with my insoles frozen.

Decided to ride a three wheeled ATV my brother was working on for a friend of his despite his warning not to do so... Welp, turns out one of the things he was working on was the brakes, and I found this out flying down a dirt trail, and like a moron I decided to stop myself by putting my foot down like you would on a bicycle. My foot immediately got sucked under one of the rear tires and I basically ran myself over, still on the ATV. I then had to peel myself off of the ATV and just kinda flopped onto the ground and laid there for a bit before limping back to my brother's shop. I still don't know how anything wasn't broken.

Went down an unfamiliar side of a mountain when I realized rain was headed my way as the sun's going down. First I pushed through lots of thick young pines so I didn't want to turn back up when I got to a massive area of forest blown down by a wind storm. I was carrying a big pack and wearing sandals bc I'd blown out my boots. Everything was wet, muddy and unleveled which caused my feet to slide inside my sandles and start to rub terribly and pull straps loose from the soles. I had to reassess my route down every 20ft or so, carefully walking across logs hanging 10ft in the air sometimes to avoid having to climb up and down constantly instead of very often. Looking at the map, I must've gone about a half-mile over this giant game of pick-up-sticks, which I was doing quickly to escape the incoming storm. Walking sticks were absolutely essential, although I still busted ass a few times. I remember losing traction and thinking "This is it" but then catching myself on something or just landing on a smooth log. If I'd have caught a pointy stick or if my sandles gave out, I'd be stuck crawling out of this mess in the rain.

I threw a rock up and it smashed a girls head open when I was 9. I didn't mean to do it and to this day I think it gave me PTSD and anxiety issues. She actually lived, but I don't know the extent of the damage because I stopped being friends with her since our mutual friend's parent didn't like the fact that she was talking about sex at an early age.

Ill prepared for gnats in Alabama. They weren’t biting, just flying everywhere; in my mouth, up my nose, in my ears, and in my eyes. The first day was nice, but the gnats came out on days two and three.

Got a seriously chaffed asshole from the wrong underwear. I think they were too tight and not breathable enough, combo with hot weather and high humidity. I’m not fat, so I guess it could have been worse.

Explored an overgrown forest road. Horrible chigger infestation later that night.

The dirt trail led to a road that is pretty busy (in the country but a lot of traffic like log trucks and such), I realized that the brakes weren't working and looked down so see why, which started steering me towards a drainage ditch dug alongside the road. To keep myself from crashing into the ditch, I attempted to stop myself and ended up with my story above.

Got caught hiking in the rain in Los Padres, didn't have my stuff inside my backpack bagged. Layers, shitty amazon sleeping bag, everything soaked through. Dropped to below freezing overnight, nearly died of hypothermia.

Havent encountered any major fuckups yet, but my brother went on a hike when he was 15(I was 10 at the time) with a friend, and he fell down a cliff and died in the rescue helicopter shortly after. That was a pretty major fuckup, haha. Miss you man.

Not me but once on an alcoholic camping trip my friend forgot to bring the tent and sleeping bags, only realized when we started to step up camp at our location, at night and raining on and off. I was the only one that pack extra clothes and waterproofs so I just put everyone on at once and was quite comfy however the others didn't and started to drink to make themselves pass out because they couldn't sleep.

My story is nearly exactly the same as OP's first paragraph except I slammed my tailbone into a rock before the tree saved me, and had to hike a mile back to my car while nearly puking from the pain. I healed as much as I could for 4 months and still needed some PT.

Went to a nude beach on a cold and rainy day. Nobody was there. Decided to walk back to the parking area, start up a trail, which keeps getting narrower and less clear. Things are getting steep and the ground is hard compacted sand that sometimes crumbles. Eventually figure out that I haven't been following a trail, I was following paths made by rain eroding the cliff face. Look behind me, doesn't look like I can easily climb back down as I'm already about 150ft up the 250 ft cliff, have to keep going forward. Blackberry tickets are now the dominate form of ground vegetation. Pretty sure I can see the top of the cliff, if I can just make it through all of these blackberries. Finally get to the top only to find out there's an eight foot tall chainlink fence topped with barbed wire. Also a sign about a huge fine for being on the wrong side of the fence. Stand there trying to decide what to do when some Karens walk past on the other side of the fence. Pretty sure they're going to call the police, so I find a section of the fence where the barbed wire has been cut and climb over it there. Haven't climbed a chainlink fence in decades but I make it over. My shoes are filled with bits of blackberry thicket but I can't stop now, the police might be showing up any second. See a stupid sign written backwards proclaiming this as Cree land even enough they live on the other side of the continent. Police don't show up or if they do, it's after I've gotten far enough away from the area. Never go to a nude beach again.

I was a deckhand on a steamboat on the Mississippi, and part of our duty was standing at the end of the gangway for security reasons.
No amount of deet would deter the trillions of gnats that were constantly flying into your eyeball, up your nose and in your ears.
What I ended up doing was wearing a rain poncho and taping it around my waist to seal it, as well as taping It around my face, wearing really tight goggles and a facemask that I had taped to seal it off.

i went up on mount shasta summitted in april. got moderately misdirected on the way down had to cut across a tall ridge to get back to my camp. didnt have enough fuel to melt drinking water, cook food. made it down the next morning quite dehydrated. story on mt rainier went up to the hut at 10k feet in september. got caught in a brutal blizzard. got mis directed going down. barely made it to the road, walked down for an hour before i realized my car was 3 hour walk back up. spent the day in the thankfully heated bathroom building since my sedan was shit for sleeping in and i was totally soaked. got out late the next morning thanks to plow trucks.

Tried to carry on a conversation with a guy behind me while carrying a 30lb pack and going over blowdowns in a burn section. Came down hard off of one about 5 feet off the ground without picking a good spot to land. The turf I landed on was loose and collapsed under me so my right ankle went 90 degrees for a moment. Left foot completely slid down the edge of the trail and I doubled over in pain doing the Peter Griffin owww skit. All I could do was keep walking so I got up after about 30 seconds and walked another 12 miles in agony that day trying not to think about it. Ankle swelled to about 150% normal size within 2 hours and I limped the next 60 miles to civilization over 2 days
