I've been an outdoorsman all my life, was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, have enjoyed rock climbing, spelunking, hunting and fishing, long-distance backpacking, primitive camping, multi-day paddles down major rivers, etc.
I simply haven't read a manual of this kind since my Boy Scout days, other than fish identification field guides and various fishing books. I might find tidbits of info in some of these books that I don't know myself, wouldn't see on forums or imageboards, etc.
No matter how many decades of experience one has, there's always more to learn. I'm not looking for a beginner's guide, just material to mine for nuggets I may not be familiar with.
