Why?
It’s a flatter lay than a normal gathered end hammock, and is designed to be used with ground pads.
Basically a suspended tent.
It’s just heavy and really expensive compared to a standard gathered end, but not really when compared to a mid-priced tent.

I want to give hammock camping a shot but I'm paranoid that someone or something is going to steal my shit, I sleep with my bag next to me in a tent. Had a friend who was out in the middle of no where and end up having his shit silently raided in the middle of the night by methheads, didn't even realize until they started walking off and gave chase.
I don't have the money or patiences not to start stabbing cunts.

Gathered end hammocks use structural ridge lines that serve three purposes. They keep the hammock hanging at the same angle, they support a bugnet, and they provide a place to hang things. You could probably hang your pack from it.

Not having tried one but I've seen them on video I do not want to swing head to toe. That and the weird tarp geometry required. The side to side swing of a gathered hammock is comfy, I'd rather a bridge hammock I think.
