I've been having a long discussion with coworkers over the past couple days about the ideal road trip. We decided that 3 weeks would have been the ideal minimum for a comfortable road trip while seeing most sites in the US. If you only had 3 weeks what would you try to fit into the schedule.

Probably some sort of loop from CO through Utah down to the Grand Canyon, uo through Cali, see the beauty of OR and WA then some sort of route to the Tetons maybe.

Skyline Drive or just the Blue Ridge in general

Very beautiful in the fall, but the blue ridge is going to be "the most blue" in warmer months, the blue haze comes from isoprene, very iconic and you don't see this out west. I grew up in the area and when I was younger I thought the blue haze was just normal.

I don’t think it’s enough time to really see everything. My wife and I took a two week road trip from New Orleans to Las Vegas and back, seeing different things along the way in each direction.

I get 6 weeks total and usually plan to have 3 weeks all together in early winter or early spring and then separate the other 3 through

I would want to visit different places in different seasons. east coast is better in the late spring or the summer, when everything is green. I've never cared for the fall like some people because so many of the trees are going bare. maybe if you catch it right as the leaves start to turn or something... but after they start to fall it's not as good. out west can be enjoyed at that time in my opinion. you just don't want to be in places like Utah when they get lots of rain, because a lot of the areas are borderline inaccessible and vehicles get stuck in the mud all the time.
