You can go faster, but I'd rather just ride on or next to the tracks. No trail necessary. If there is no ground to ride on (i.e. a bridge), I either ride in the middle, find another path, or carry my bike across.

It's a fun idea but the abandonded tracks where I live are partialy covered in dirt, so you'd have to dismount it and mount on again constatly wich kinda defeats the purpose

Plenty of abandoned track, I've seen videos of people using motorized carts to tour the desert of the southwest at pretty high speed with minimum safety measures. Based on your picture I think its way too much trouble. Unless you could capture/couple the wheels you'd never be able to keep that thing on the track and it would be a nightmare. Why bother unless you are secured on the track? Might as well just try to ride a bike on a rail and not modify it at all.
