Boot Care - winter edition

you do take care of your boots, don't you, anon?
trail runners need not apply.
Post your boots and what you do to keep them in shape.

Pic related is my second pair of mini-mils. I've been cleaning and polishing them about once a week. I've found it helps a lot with keeping my feet dry in the foot or so of snow we've had on the ground for the past few months. It also prevents salt from getting worked into the leather (or so I'm told).

I think this may be exacerbated by the flexibility of the shoe, but I find my polish wears off relatively quickly, especially when I'm running a saw or tramping through brush. Before applying my first coat I used some 150 grit sandpaper to remove the synthetic coating the boots came with from the factory so that I could treat the actual leather and hopefully help it adhere better. (not to mention the factory finish started to wear off before I even got through the break in period). Any of you have advice for this sort of stuff? The saddle soap and polish I'm using right now is from the local hardware store so I'd imagine a higher quality product might have more longevity.
