I once got a nice fish on the hook that was pretty big.
The line snapped just as I was taking it up and it escaped with the hook still in its mouth...
I felt so bad for the fish that it had to suffer by living with that hook until it rusts away or worse.
I immediately ran and bought a quality landing net so now I catch them all without accidents and kill them immediately to avoid unnecessary suffering.
It feels much more ethical now and I get to kill and eat more fish, win-win.
