How close do you live to the /out/doors?

This is my view while driving around every day. An hour drive from the sierra national forest and about two hours from both the coast and the big 3 nat’l parks around here which are Yosemite, Kings Canyon/Sequioa.

On 7ish acres of forest, adjacent to several thousand acres of forest(BLM)
So literally just out the back door.

There’s an old logging road at the bottom of the hill, if you follow it a mile or two are some secluded swimming holes and the lake is another 5 miles past (pretty comfy bike ride)

No complaints.

About a ten minute drive away. My view is like yours, except I live at the base of the mountains.

Bout a half hour drive to anything decent that isn't the lake nearby. It's good for ice fishing and sturgeon spearing, but otherwise I live in a city of around 60k people. Rent is cheap and the amenities are decent. It's central-ish Wisconsin so it's not overly niggerly

I'm aware, I've spent way too much time on the western side of the Sierras for work. The urban sprawl that stretches from the northern border of that state all the way to the border of Mexico, never fails to disgust me. Fortunately I make a lot of money for a short amount of time there.

That depends on what you want to do. I'm of the opinion that the Sierras are the greatest mountain range on earth, because there's endless entertainment. Skiing, snowshoeing, hot springs, four wheeling, mountaineering, climbing, rappelling and mine exploration, mountain biking, medal detecting and prospecting, hunting for arrowheads, fishing, paragliding, rockhounding, rafting, you name it. People even dive in Lake Tahoe, and they surf and paddle board. You can do almost anything you want in the Sierras, you just have to find the right place for it.

I live about 6 minutes from a NF trailhead. 10 minutes to a large recreation area with multiple trailheads, campgrounds etc...

Bullshit. There are plenty of amazing, remote, sparsely populated areas in the foothills all along the Sierra. Moreover, the central vally is not "urban sprawl" - the vast majority of the land is in Ag production. You are either delusional or lying.

I can hike up to a primeval (Appalachian) peak that's literally just up the road from me. It's steep the whole way, takes a couple hours, quite a workout. Helluva view. People rarely go up there, which is great. I live in rural Appalachia so, in general, there's /out/ just a stone's throw away most anywhere.
