western name brands got pushed upscale, and you can get a better knife from china now days than what used to be standard for the same price.
its actually not a bad situation compared to a lot of other things its happened to, because chinks are actually good at making cheap knives sometimes.
you get more knife for your money than you used to (accounting for your money being worth less than it used to be)
but the one thing chinks struggle with is product design, so they produce a lot of trash too, if you know knives you should be able to tell what's good and not from the product photos and spec sheet.
example of a good chink brand: sanrenmu is top notch, i put them on par with $300+ knifemakers for fit finish qc and function when it comes to folders including complex mechanisms like axis locks. just with cheaper materials and mass production. they make a bunch of retarded designed knives but their good ones are gems.
chinks that make good fixed blades are not hard to find at all.
