>>2542390Try not to get addicted to stuff. That is the way of the redditoid and the osprey trail/thru hiking faggot.
All you "need" boots, a bag with a nice hip strap, a sleeping bag that is compactable and temp appropriate, a light source, prefferably a head lamp to keep your hands free and let you do stuff easier at night. Socks that don't suck will improve quality of live.
Tents if you have really nasty weather. Tarp if you want something super cheap and much lighter. You can make do with that and a hammock very easily.
The thing to do is sit on google maps and try and find places you want to explore first. Do not make the reddit mistake of doing hikes or any of that shit. It robs you of creativity and instills an obendiance to 'rules' that will fuck up your freedom to enjoy things that they cannot access. Such as hiding in abandoned missle silos for an overnight or getting wendigo pussy.
Pick a time and an area that you want to GO to first. Then select a time and date to try walking there for a test run. Keep the distances small. 5 10 and 25 miles are big increments when you have gear, especially starting gear. Consider rain. Consider most water procurement.
When you have selected a spot, walk there with gear or minimal gear, see how it feels and if you notice anything along the way. From here you have done recon and can return informed of the conditions and tweak gear for a night out and stay there. This is important when tresspassing.
It's not all like that, but it's worth deciding first HOW you want to spend YOUR out time. That's what matters. I like to explore stuff and trap. Abandoned shit is cool. When you get high level enough you might even get the itch to start stealing high end items from thru hikers and boomers. This is addictive, I would reccomend not doing t until you have decent night vision optics or they start to fuck up something.
TLDR Boots, Bag, Sleeping setup.+ Quality of life choices like good sleeping gear and socks and shoes.
