>>2542820Greyhound stops in every small town, so it take forever to get anywhere. For instance from my nearest city to a national park I like is roughly a 9 hour drive. By Greyhound it’s easily over 20 hours.
Of course if you’re going from one city to another with no transfers, Greyhound and Megabus are both much faster. But direct routes generally aren’t too far, maybe 8 hours. And visiting a city can be fun, but it’s not really an /out/ topic.
Even if you get somewhere interesting by bus, you might not be in the park, and still might have to figure out a way in. Some have free shuttles, some don’t. Private shuttles are expensive. It’s gonna carry from place to place.
There are a few parks setup for transit though. Glacier NP and Harpers Ferry both have Amtrak stations. I’m sure a few have Greyhound stops.
The logistics of using transit to visit a park are pretty tricky. The busses do t drop you off at a trailhead. You’re not exactly energetic after traveling for 14 hours. The time probably won’t be ideal. So a poor person would probably want to stay in a car camping spot for a night then set off the next day.
