Did you know that dogs also eat and drink? Crazy, but true. The reason horses, mules, oxen, etc. are workable beasts of burden is because they can eat plants along the way, and also because they're dumb as fuck due to their herbivorous diet.

Not a lot, dog's spines are not designed to carry a load like that so any real weight fucks them up.
They can carry maybe enough for a short day hike but that's pretty much it.

For anything heavier you'll want a travois.

rule of thumb is 10-15% of bodyweight, my husky mix carries her own water, food, and bowl for 2-3 day trips but I wouldn't ask her to carry much more than that, and she's a working dog. The dog in that pic looks pretty overloaded desu.

dogs used as utility are draft animals, meaning that they pull weight behind them as opposed to bearing the load on their body. A better option is a travois or small cart. The most you should load on a dog as a pack animal is probably dried food and a small silicone bowl or something, just judging from the shape of their spines vs an actual pack animal such as an ox.

Would recommend reading the difference between draft and pack animals, it's actually quite interesting.
