my super basic pack list
flint & rock or steel
map & compass
headlamp
sleeping bag
small tarp
small tent(sometimes)
sleeping pad
water bottles and or bladder
rain layer (rain jacket and rain pants) they are light and can really help keep you warm if it gets windy or just cold
some extra socks
don't even really need a knife often to be honest. sticks can be broken easily, tinder can be made, log esque pieces of wood can be scavenged easily
a bag of tinder bundles
a metal cup that is big enough to cook food in
something to purify water with. I don't fuck with tablets and prefer a pump
a pack cover. again basically weightless and can help keep your shit dry if your pack doesn't fit all the way under your shelter
p-cord-4 or 5 5 foot pieces. light and useful
more shit if its cold like
a fleece top and fleece pant underlayer. you'll definitely warm up while you're moving. i would wear a ski jacket kinda jacket over my fleece in the morning while at camp, but once i was half a mile into the hike id need to lose the thick jacket. rainpants can be a lifesaver and weigh next to nothing. if it was really windy the rain jacket served me great.
I imagine scotland as a fucking cold, windy and damp place. so no offense but i wouldn't wear some mil surplus shit there. gear that holds as little moisture as possible
