>>2547047I just give them a quick glance, brief eye contact, a tiny wave and say "Morning" or "Afternoon" or "How ya doing" all in essentially one motion, without breaking stride.
I've never really analyzed before because I'm neither a socially retarded troglodyte nor an urbanoid accustomed to ignore every stranger around them at all times (I imagine it's awkward when an urbanoid suddenly enters an environment where some interaction with strangers is expected).
If I have my fly fishing stuff with me then there's nearly a 100% chance of some sort of conversation occurring with any other fishermen met on the trail, usually brief, but sometimes standing around for minutes lying about number and size of fish caught, misdirecting to the wrong honey holes, etc.
Also, if you are clearly a fly fisherman, women will assess you as a non-threat and may stop to watch you fish. One time I even had a cougar suggest I should buy her a drink, and I laughed and kept wading (as much as this may sound like BS, it really isn't; there's no way I'm interrupting my day of fishing for a thot).
