I hate winter in any context. It's cold and treacherous, the soil is frozen, water may be uncrossable, the trees look like shit, the birds and animals have mostly peaced out, the fish are in torpor in the deepest part of the water column, there's a lot less daylight, the necessary gear is heavier and more expensive, etc.
If you purposely go camping in the wintertime, you're a fucking lunatic. The only viable reason is that it's a designated hunting season wherever you happen to live.
