I want to buy an outdoor jacket and pants because I only have m81 bdus but I'd like to have something more normal looking for going on trails or with other people, and also they're cool. I'm thinking helikon tex woodsman jacket and pilgrim pants, are they good? otherwise for the pants I also like fjallraven barents but they're expensive as shit I'd be using them for going in wooded areas with sometimes medium to thick underbrush, plains and mud, temperate climate, sometimes it rains, but also go in the mountains where it's cold, I dont care about insulation I just want then as general purpose outer layers, like my bdu is, I put the insulation under them if needed

I bought this cheap $18 jacket off AliExpress and was impressed, the outer fabric is a durable nylon. Not 100% waterproof obviously, but it's better to carry a small umbrella for that imo. Only thing iffy was the stitching, but I can reinforce that myself easy. Unfortunately got too large a size so gave it to my friend, looking at buying another. It'll stand up to prickers and thick brush for at least a couple months if not more, just worried about the sewing coming undone.

I’m sure they’re meme brands on here, but my only points of reference for outdoorswear are Filson and LL Bean. I’d like to invest in a waxed cotton jacket, but apparently both brands are not exactly as quality as they used to be. Any recommendations?

>polycotton just get a cs95 or current british surplus jacket and pants. Helikon good design, but material won't last that long. Fjallraven is kind of the same. The pants are a great design and sewn well, but wish they were the heavy duty because the regular feels slightly fragile. dont wax them. never works 100% and makes them unbreathable. just carry an antigravity gear jacket or frog tog in pocket and wear underneath/over when needed. Polycotton will dry fast and be as durable as a carhartt for less weight but not a lot of filsons and other brands that have been around a millenia making the same fabric. fjallraven has a jacket with the heavy duty fabric but it has no pockets and is just like a trucker jacket. Their made in portugal shit is like $500. i'd only go for fjallraven for the pants because they are so much better designed than competition and if you are in USA because their warranty is good here. They will repair/replace it for life.
