>>2558218Just go to REI or Decathlon and pick a cheap "winter waterproof" no-brand boot. They are not actually waterproof (only DWR) and don't have any insulation. But they have great outsoles, breathability and padding, and usually a high rubber rand with a higher shaft. Just what you want in the woods.
When you go straight through the woods you would also benefit from a bit higher boot, like a good way over the ankle.
When you are just dayhiking or out for a weekend overnighter, and you are not pushing up mountains or trying to make 20 miles a day for a week, you don't need to bother with expensive hiking boots.
Solognac Crosshunt 520 is $120 at Decathlon for example and looks like a good boot for the price. I have several cheap throwaway boots for use in the forest.
