hey guys.

im going to try hitchhike and stealth camp the entire length of newzealand. anyone have any tips when it come to hitchhiking and stealth camping.
im going to try walk it as much as possible.
what do you guys recommend when it comes to food im mostly gonna consist of porrigde, canned tuna, noodles and some fruit and meat based snacks

literally everyone does it
i work in a hotel in NZ and like 80% of our guests at the moment are richfag boomers just finishing up hiking the length of the country before the cold weather settles in

This basically. Also do the north island last, so when some cunt steals your gear you can just go home.
Try not to die from hypothermia or crossing a flooded creek and you should be fine.

I live in NZ and have no idea why you'd do this. You'd be walking along roads for thousands of kilometers. It just sounds utterly miserable to me. Do the Te Araroa at least. I mean I'm sure this is possible but that route you've picked is literally just highways. Cars will come flying past you and your day would consist of walking between gas stations and overpriced 4squares and sleeping in sheep fields. I've hitchhiked before in NZ and just like anywhere else it's miserable. You stand there waiting for some weirdo to pick you up.

Also this route is just terrible. Christchurch to dunedin will take you like 2 weeks to walk, there's nothing on that road it's just flat and straight. Also from hokitika to wanaka is pretty isolated you'd need to do long ass food carries and it rains all the fookin time there you'll be cold and miserable and might die.

also the ferries are fucked at the moment you can't even book a trip. there's no such thing as just "sneaking on" as a hitchhiker in someones car, you need ID and a ticket.

honestly your route is just like "whats the most boring way to see NZ".

Also I would be at least a little wary of the stretch between hastings and tauranga. tonnes of maoris round there.

You don't need to "stealth camp" you can camp where you like on public land just don't leave piles of poo around the country and don't be a dick, and don't do it where someone has placed a no freedom camping sign, which probably means someone before you left a pile of poo there or otherwise annoyed the locals. And yeah fuck walking from dunedin to chch go up through the high country instead and visit dunedin another way if you haven't been, and maybe tweak some other spots to go completely away from roads if they aren't already so eg you could walk the wanganui river for that western part in the north island it's big bush through there, walk the kaimais in bop, stuff like that if you are interesting in getting way /out/ for parts of it, still miss a lot of actual good areas for hiking in but that would be one hell of a big walk

I'm pretty sure you could sit in the boot of someones car if you wanted to sit in there for 4 hours, hopefully no 14 meter swells that day kek

I wouldn't go that far. Those are all good places. Tauranga is a decent size city more full of boomers than maoris. Hes more saying that in general walking up the east coast there in rural spots you might be invited for either dinner or for a hiding depending on your social skills or if you tried to wander up someones land and camp there. And it's not the only place like that in nz. Plus it all got flooded to fuck through there if you wanted to stop and help someone pull crap off his fences or something they might put you up for a while. Are you from nz or a tourist here?
