I recommend for everyone to switch from cotton to wool underwear. You can wear the same shirt for a month and boxers for a week without them getting smelly or uncomfortable. Great for /out/ and /trv/ especially.

How long does it take for wool (in this instance a tightly rolled wool blanket) to soak through completely with water?
I like taking my wool blanket with me, but know that I can't pack it inside my ultra-light kit (I've not used the assembled kit yet, but I'm confident in it), I was just going to roll and tie it either on top of just below the bag.

All wool underwear seems to be made for cool weather. If nothing else it’s marketed as such. 150g merino is too hot for my climate most of the year (probably fine for right now), and I hear that going lighter leads to durability issues, which is why the lightest you usually see is like 130g.

after that they are too wet and they pull the heat right out of your feet

thats radiant heat, but wet wool conducts heat from your foot to the outside of your boot
i really like wool, just not as a base layer, especially in anything below -25c

Switching socks to get rid of moisture is one of the advantages of wool socks. I guess you can't do that with -25°C and windchill?

it collects sweat and stinks
wool at least breathes and wicks moisture away while maintaining temps
the key is finding light enough wool for warmer or even hot weather

some people have spare liners, even extra boots they bring to work
i dont want to change my socks 6 times a day

i like natural as my outer layer, and synthetic as my base
because the natural layer wicks the moisture into the dry air, and the synthetic is the barrier that keeps your skin dry
usually i wear light leather boots that breathe very well and wool blend insoles with synthetic socks
i havent wore lined boots in a while, but when i did i wore wool liners with synthetic socks
every night i pull my liners or insoles out and get my boots bone dry
even when im camping

Wool needs to be a certain thickness to hold together in my experience. Not a fan of thin wool.
I use darn toughs thickest wool socks. Even the next grade down ive found too clammy cause they use less wool percentage. Aim for 75% wool or higher

For base layers I have had best experience with nylon. I use duluth. Exofficio is same. Its a ripstop fabric. Still testing shirts but will try and find a nylon button up. Polyester base layers smell after a few days. Works fine if its loose or an outer layer.
For winter I use stanfields wool for insulation. Their superwash works. Its thin but mine have lasted a year thus far. They dont use merino. Merino is the thinnest wool strands so it is inherently less durable. Not a fan of it outside socks.
Stanfields has an 80/20 wool that is a lot thicker. I use it for a sweater. Warmest sweater per weight I have but dont use it as a shell cause thorns or cat claws will make short work of it. Mine are a few years old. I am testing 80/20 wool for leggings but it is a little itchy. Not sure if that will go away with use. Honestly polartec fleece here works well too. Swazi makes classic fleece bottons id go with.
For trousers and coats I like polycotton for general use. Fjallraven pants are decent but $. I also use dickies. I also use nyco pants that are us surplus bdu pants. Last forever. Just dye them.
For coats I like the vritish cs95 jacket. It dries fast. I can stash a waterproof frog togg in yhe pocket for a hard rain.
For boots look up eva boots. Light, wellies, does well with shit weather. Ridiculously good. I like mine to have a liner to soak up moisture so go with torvi/nordman. I like them most. Tingley I think has them. You could upsize and add a wool liner from amazon. Theres a polish brand too called lemigo.
I like nordman and torvi too cause they add a rubber bit to the bottom since eva is croc material

You can´t find regular wool anything. It´s either Merino, or cotton/polyester.
