I feel that abundance has ruined me. I will be doing a journey across the united states in the coming months, but not in the traditional sense. While normally, the people who do this follow highways, and have some basic schedule, I intend to spend great deals of time in places long unwandered. I want to experience struggle. I want to not know where my next meal will come from, or if ill even eat in the next several days. I want to be afraid, while I have a heated staring contest with a wildcat. I want to be alive.

Last year I quit my job and moved into the Canadian bush. Despite some setbacks I got through the winter, and although I've got to get a job for a few months I now have a living expense of $500 a month for food, gas, and insurance.

With what I can save this year I will be doing some serious expeditions starting in the new year with a trip from Algeria to Cairo over land with a few friends.

Where I am at right now: Working a modest job with good time off. Live in a rural area in New England. Own an old fixer upper house, working on fixing it, building the garden, being self sufficient, and getting out hiking/climbing/skiing as much as possible in the meantime.

Short term realistic goal: climbing a bunch of local multi pitch trad routes, and going to the Amazon jungle this summer. Following year hopefully doing a guided technical climb in Peru. Or non guided moderate alpine climb in Peru with a friend.

Long term quest: Setting a new route (or climbing one that’s only been done once before) in Alaskan/Canadian wilderness, Living abroad in South American Andes/Jungle for a year or too. Climbing a rugged and difficult new route or 2nd ascent in Peru or Patagonia.

I dunno anymore fren. My 30s have been fucked from the start. Just getting my self back to being happy. Really the only thing I find joy in is chasing big fish and listening to bluegrass. If I can keep doing that I might be ok.

Ive never dumpster dived, but I have spent alot of time around the homeless, and have learned alot of their tricks. I do expect to, on occasion, ask for help, but I will try to avoid it. The longest ive ever gone without food is a week, but thats a week at the 9-5 wage cage, not a week on the road, so ill see if I have the same willpower when it comes to hunger.
