>>2561670Gee, Anon. Why didn't I think of that? Come to think of it, why did ancient hunters and armies even bother with spearheads when they could have saved a ton of money and resources by just carving sticks? You absolute fucking mouthbreather.
Let me see if I can put it in terms you can understand:
>Pissed off bear, moose or wild boar attacks you and you try to fight it with a wooden spearYou die
>Pissed off bear, moose or wild boar attacks you and you try to fight it with a knifeYou die
>Pissed off bear, moose or wild boar attacks you and you try to fight it with a spear with a broad, sharp, steel spearheadYou maybe don't die
Yes, a fire-hardened wooden spearpoint is something that has been used by some people in the past in emergencies, but even cavemen knew it sucked and used flint whenever they had the choice. Besides, you don't exactly have time to sit down and whittle up and harden a spearpoint when a wild animal situation is brewing, but you might just have time to pull out your knife and jam it on your walking stick if you have some sort of quick attach mechanism rigged up in advance
You're way overestimating the value of having a knife *and* a spear. Unless you're getting attacked by ninjas no one's slipping past your fucking guard and grappling you. And if you're that worried carry another smaller knife
